In April 2024 the Santa Ana City Council adopted an urgency ordinance and subsequent regular ordinance banning short‑term residential rentals to protect neighborhood character and preserve housing stock. According to the OCTax data, Santa Ana’s transient occupancy tax is 11 %, but with the ban in place, no short‑term rental permits are issued.
