On October 28, 2026, Airbnb announced a new funding model: it donates US$0.10 from its own revenue for each completed stay to Airbnb.org, the independent nonprofit providing temporary housing for people affected by disaster, illness or crisis.
Airbnb says this contribution does not change what guests pay or hosts earn, and requires no opt-in. Stays canceled before check-in, experiences and services are excluded.
Airbnb.org says the model, alongside additional support from Airbnb and other donors, will help provide US$500 million over five years. It aims to provide 1 million free housing nights annually by 2030. These are funding plans and a service goal, rather than housing nights already delivered.
Three distinctions for hosts
- Platform contribution: The 10 cents comes from Airbnb, so owners do not need to add a guest surcharge or deduct it from a payout.
- Voluntary support: Hosts can separately choose to offer discounted stays or donate earnings. That is a different decision from the platform-funded contribution.
- Emergency stays: Airbnb.org works with nonprofit and government partners to identify people needing support. Supported guests stay free, while hosts are paid.
